Yajur Upakarma 5th August 2009

AVANI AVITTAM IN ORDINARY PARLANCE, KNOWN AS YAJUR UPAKARMA FALLS ON 5TH AUGUST 2009. Rituals related to this ceremony consists of 1.samithadanam 2. kamo karishid
japam 3. maha sankalpam. 4. yagnopavitha dharanam 5. kandarishi tharpanam.

All these rituals are to be done under the guidance of a qualified priest only. However, for the benefit of those for whom the services of a priest (sastrigal) are not available, these manthras are given below, to enable performing the ceremony by ourselves.

The first part SAMITHA DHANAM is to be done only by bachelors ( who have worn sacred threads already). This part is to be done only under the guidance of a Guru. Hence, we skip this portion, since, most of the Brahmacharis will be under the care of their parents.

We are proceeding with the Yajur Upakarma, which starts with KAMOKARISHIT JAPA, FOLLOWED BY MAHA SANKALPA, YAGNOPAVITHA DHARANAM AND LASTLY KANDARISHI THARPANA.

Kindly perform BRAHMA YAGNAM before proceeding to MAHA SANKALPAM.

(please wear pavithram again )


YAGNOPAVITHA DHARANA MANTHRAS
Please ensure that chandana and kumkuma are placed on the mudichu of the sacred threads.
( one may wear two sets or three sets of sacred threads depending on anushtanam.
please follow stipulated guidance of your family. After chanting the manthra say loudly OM and then wear the thread. )


KANDARISHI THARPANAM
(materials required: thaambalam, pancha pathram, water, ell, akshathai )



HOMAM IS PERFORMED BY THE PRIEST IN A SAMASTI CONGREGATION. PLEASE ATTEND THE VEDHA ARAMBHA HOMAM IF ONE IS ORGANISED IN THE NEARABOUTS. AS OTHERWISE, PLEASE WORSHIP LORD VINAYAKA , WITH NIVEDHANAM AND KARPOORA HARATHI.

After completing the rituals, kindly get the blessings of your parents. Even if they are abroad, please ring them up and get their blessings. It is most essential.
